Where "Straight to the Pool Room" Comes From
This one's straight from the 1997 Australian film The Castle. Patriarch Darryl Kerrigan says it whenever the family receives something they treasure — the joke being that their modest home has a "pool room" reserved purely for displaying prized possessions, despite never actually owning a pool table.
The line became one of the most quoted moments in Australian cinema and has long since escaped the movie to become everyday slang.
