Boomerang Shootout is a free boomerang game for learning Aussie slang. A meaning sits at the top of the screen and four slang words fall from the sky. Tap the one that matches and your boomerang knocks it down. Every word comes from the Fair Dinkum Aussie Slang dictionary, so a word you miss always has a full entry, an example sentence and often a video origin story waiting for you.
Each right word is worth 100 points, plus up to 50 bonus points for hitting it high up before it falls. That total is multiplied by your streak: the multiplier starts at Γ1, goes up by one for every three right answers in a row, and tops out at Γ5. You start with three lives. A wrong word, or letting the right one reach the ground, costs a life and resets your streak. When a life goes you see the real meaning with an example, so every miss teaches you something. The words fall faster the longer you last.
Read the meaning first, then scan the words. A lot of Aussie slang is a shortened word with an -o or -ie on the end (see how Aussies make slang words). Pick a themed pack for an easier run, or stay on Everything for a proper test. On a computer you can press 1 to 4 to throw at a word. Prefer a timed round? Try Slang Sprint, or a slower one-a-day game like Slangle.
